The company behind Flute, the George Street seafood restaurant that shut in June 2025, has called creditors to a 29 September meeting to wind it up.
The company that ran Flute, the seafood restaurant and wine bar at 9 Edgar Buildings on George Street, is heading for liquidation. Its creditors have been called to a virtual meeting on Tuesday 29 September.
The notice was published in The Gazette on 23 September. It was placed by the director of The Flute Restaurant Limited, and it gives the company’s trading name as Flute and its trading address as 9 Edgar Buildings, Bath BA1 2EE.
A meeting of shareholders will be held first, to consider a resolution to wind the company up voluntarily. The creditors’ meeting that follows may appoint a liquidator. The notice names two insolvency practitioners at Parker Andrews, a Norwich firm, as qualified to act.
What happened to Flute
Flute opened on George Street as what it called a pop-up seafood concept. It served fish from Devon and Cornwall, bought through Wing of St Mawes, and advertised a seafood trolley and a long list of sparkling wines, according to its own website as archived in March 2025.
By June 2025 the site carried a farewell. “After an incredible 18-month journey, the Flute pop-up seafood concept is preparing to cast off from its temporary home on George Street,” it said. A notice below it said Flute would be “temporarily closed starting 6th June 2025”. That wording is on the archived copy from 20 June 2025.
It promised that “something truly special” would take over the space. By late August 2025 the address was trading as The George on George Street, with the same 01225 400193 phone number Flute had used.
The flute-bath.com website no longer works. Today it shows a blank server page.
What the company record shows
Companies House lists The Flute Restaurant Limited, company number 14972478, as:
- incorporated on 30 June 2023
- classed as a licensed restaurant, licensed club and pub or bar
- registered at an accountant’s office in north-west London, not in Bath
- late with its accounts for the year to 30 June 2025, which were due by 31 March 2026
- late with its annual confirmation statement, due by 1 July 2026
Its last filed accounts run to 30 June 2024.
What about The George?
The George’s website was still live on 28 September, listing its opening hours and a Christmas page. The Gazette notice does not mention The George.
We could not establish from the public record whether The George is run by the same company. Nothing we have seen says The George is closing, and this notice should not be read as saying so.
What it means for you
- If you are owed money by The Flute Restaurant Limited, you can take part in the creditors’ meeting. The notice says proofs of debt must be lodged by 4pm on the business day before the meeting, which is Monday 28 September. Contact Parker Andrews on 01603 284284, as the notice sets out.
- If you hold a Flute gift voucher, you are likely to be an unsecured creditor of the company. The same route applies.
- If you have a booking at The George, nothing in this notice affects it, as far as the record shows. Check with the venue directly if you are unsure.
A liquidation is a formal process, and the company and its director have the right to reply to anything reported here. We will update this story if the liquidator’s appointment is published.
