Blur drummer Dave Rowntree's No One You Know show is now at BLOC @ Burdall's Yard on Friday 25 September, not the Roper Theatre. Tickets £20, 8pm start.
Dave Rowntree, the drummer in Blur, brings his one-man show No One You Know to Bath on Friday 25 September, and it is not where the tour poster says. The poster lists the Roper Theatre. The Bath Box Office listing now carries a venue change: the show is at BLOC @ Burdall’s Yard, BA1 5NH (Bath Box Office).
Doors open at 7pm, the show starts at 8pm and is expected to finish around 10pm. Tickets are £20, which the box office says includes the ticket fee and a £1.50 order processing fee. There is no admission for under 14s. The listing files it under The Fez Comedy Club.
What the show is
The tour poster bills it as “a one-man comedy show, featuring the early days of Britpop and all the shenanigans that came with it”, presented by Edge Street Live and Friends. Fiona Wilkinson, marketing manager at Legend Times Group, who represents Rowntree, told Bath Daily he “will be sharing unheard stories from Blur’s early days, alongside candid photos from his bestselling book No One You Know.”
The box office listing adds that he covers the band’s “early friendships in Colchester, to world tours, and famously going head-to-head with Oasis”, and that the pictures were taken on his Olympus OM10.
The book behind it
No One You Know is Rowntree’s first photography book, edited by Miranda Sawyer. The publisher’s media sheet describes it as “a one-of-its kind document of what it’s really like to be in a young band during the vital first few years, when everything is new, romantic and fresh.”
It says Rowntree “brought his camera along to all of the band’s first adventures”, taking close-up pictures of singer Damon Albarn, guitarist Graham Coxon, bassist Alex James and himself. According to the sheet, the book runs to hundreds of previously unseen photographs from Blur’s debut tours of America and Japan, “in the studio in the UK, playing games in the tour bus, larking around backstage, messing about in hotel rooms, at video shoots, with fans and friends”, with a personal foreword and Rowntree’s own memories written alongside the images.
The hardback is 204 pages and has a recommended price of £40; the e-book is £17.99. The Guardian ran a gallery of the photographs when the book came out, one of a long list of titles, from NME to Rolling Stone UK, that the media sheet says covered it.
Who Dave Rowntree is
The biography Legend Times Group sent says Rowntree joined Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon in Colchester in the late 1980s, before Alex James completed the line-up. It says Blur have sold 70 million records worldwide, won five BRITs and sold out Wembley Stadium twice in 2023.
Outside the band, the same biography lists founding a computer animation company, working as a solicitor, standing as a Labour Party candidate, contributing to the Beagle 2 Mars mission, and composing for film and TV. His debut solo album, Radio Songs, came out in 2023.
The rest of the tour
Bath is one date in a run that, on the poster, started at the Edinburgh Fringe on 28 August and goes on to Worcester’s Huntingdon Hall the next night, 26 September. Frome is on 21 November at Rook Lane, and Bristol’s Folk House on 15 November. The tour ends at the Rosehill in Whitehaven on 13 December. More at daverowntree.com.
